I have four polish hens (2 silver, 2 golden) who just turned 1 year old on June 3rd, 2012. About three months ago the two silver polish hens started getting really scraggly, pointed feathers on their crests. The Golden hens crests remained soft and beautiful. About two months ago, both the goldens and the silvers tail feathers started getting really thin and scraggly looking. Being a new chicken owner, I thought perhaps they were starting to molt but they have not lost any feathers on their bodies. We wormed them thinking maybe that would help but it hasn't. Any idea what the problem is or what to do to help them get back their beautiful crests and tails? They do not act sick and are eating and drinking like normal.

Thanks!

To me, polish chickens always look a little scraggly. Maybe she just looks different from the other one? My main perpose in posting this is to bump you up. Maybe you should post in emergencies/diseases?

You know, I'm new to this, too and was wondering the same thing about my polish. She's just recovered from coccidiosis so I was worried that was why. But she's seems fine now and still has a stray feather poking up here and there on her crest. Maybe they just have bad hair days, too! ;)
