one of my Polish top hats has had its tail picked. it is now bleeding andn I'm not sure what to do. does she need to be separated? I read a little about "blue kote" is that for occasions such as this? I've also read that it means that they need more protein in their diet. how effective is that? thanks for any of the help.

Chickens like Polish tend to be the target of feather picking. The "poof" of feathers seems to draw the others. It needs to be separated at least til healed, to prevent further attacks. Too little space and too little protein in the diet are often cited as causes of feather picking, too little space probably being the most common cause. Protein will also help then regrow their feathers. BluKote colors the wound sort of blue or purple and tends to mask the wound, making attacks less likely, but it certainly doesn't always work.
