When I was in Scouts, we would camp on a clear, sandy stream that was shallow but had one good size 'hole'. My best friend at the time was also a pretty good swimmer. He dove in from the side and I dove right behind him.
He was almost to the other side and panicked. I came up behind him, and tried to push him the last 2 feet to the other side. He was in crisis mode however and turned, grabbed my arm, then climbed onto my head. We had all just finished 'Life saving' lessons and I thought to wrap my arms around him, blow the air from my lungs and drag him deeper with me. Well he quickly realized I wasn't Safe anymore and let go of me.
I was able to turn him around and push him to shore without surfacing. Just another day in the life.

My first of two saves in the fire department was a drowning. At a place called sister's of Mount Carmel (convent?) Anyway they were having a social gathering and someone spotted her face down in the pool. Me and another guy got there pulled her out and started cpr. She choked some we rolled her on her side cleared the airway. And I remember her looking at us soo scared but it was like she didn't understand what we were saying. Later found out still on scene that she was from Germany and didn't know English.

You know I never really thought about it that way. Obviously the pt is happy but it's how people supposed to be. We laughed after but my second was as the story goes before we got there, was an older man at a little Cafe here and he had a heart attack just after getting his ticket. A.E.D. was used with him. After all was said and done it was the joke about the man that had a heart attack when he got his ticket. It's one of those places that regulars frequent daily

So many times EMTs say, I was just doing my job ... humility is a good thing, but .. man! If somebody saved MY life, I would not want them to be all, oh it was no big deal, about it. It's my LIFE, it IS a big deal! It would be to me anyway! Lol
