Hi,

I found the polyvisol w/o iron...I have little gel caps of Vit E at home...should I try to get the Vit E directly in her? Or mix it in with the food I am going to make for her tonight...I was going to try adding some warm water to her starter to make a mash out of it...

Thank you!!!

When I first started the vitamin regime with my crookneck chick a few weeks ago, I alternated the Poly-Vi-Sol (you got the right one, WITHOUT iron) with the vitamin E gel since I read that they can inhibit one another. I squeezed the vit E gel/dripped the vitamins onto the side of her beak when it was slightly open and watched that she sucked it down.

I would do them at 6 hour intervals, alternating which one I gave. After a week or so of this I would prepare the meds and just stir into the top part of the mash. When the weather is warm the mash shouldn't be left out for long since it can spoil and further make the chick ill. I also bought some selenium since I read that can enhance the absorption of the vit E, and ground it up with the mash, just 50 mcg a day.

Good luck with your sickie chickie!

Thank you!! So far I have given her the vitamin drops 3 times and vitamin E twice, mixed in the top of her mash / food. She seems very interested in eating / drinking its just to keep her head still long enough...

does this cause seizures???? Its almost like she can hold herself pretty good and then she closes her eyes, head goes down down down and shakes uncontrollably like she is having a seizure or something and then either she comes out of it or she ends up doing somersaults??

Its so hard to see her like this!!

I want to make sure she is getting enough food / water...I've given her water by a dropper as well as tipped her towards the water and she has drank a little on her own but I worry when I am at work and not helping her if she is able to get enough water in her herself?

I would probably try to get her the meds directly to her beak at first to make sure she was getting enough, at least in the beginning? If you could do this 3x daily (before work, after work, before bed) alternating the meds for efficacy, I think this would be best.

My chick had what looked like seizures too (I don't think it really is seizures) when she would get excited, she would bow her head and go into a somersault. She was still getting jittery when excited after a week or two, now she is almost completely recovered. I made her a cervical collar looking thing by rolling TP into a collar 2" or so wide, then taping it so it held her head in the right position. She got rid of it pretty quickly most of the time. I would hold her in position so she could eat from a bowl and made the mash pretty liquidy so she got some water that way too...

Make sure she's in a cool place so she doesn't need as much water, but can someone come in once or twice a day while you are at work to check on her and try to get her to drink at least? School should be out soon if it's not already- know any helpful kids or stay-at-home moms who could chickensit?

Good luck and please let us know how she is doing!
