Pond Fish

well all the wakins are are double tailed comets...I guess its a mutation that pops up in the producers ponds occasionally...the first one I found was actually at a walmart as a comet...he was about 4" long and had very long flowing fins....a truly beautiful fish!....he was doing great......mysteriously died a couple months ago....no idea what happened to him

He was probably my favorite fish!

I still have a few though and check the feeder tanks at pretty much any pet store I go to. I've found them at Walmart, Petco, Petsmart, and Superpetz...and I'm fairly sure that the suppliers are not all the same one. Several of the wakins I've found have had odd finnage...not fully parted double tails or overspreading to the point of the lower portion of the tailfins pointing up and out instead of down and out, but several have been pretty nice. Of the decent finned ones I have now I have one that's mostly white with some orange down its back, one solid orange, and one silver. The one that I got at walmart had been white with the red forehead patch. I've found other ones that didn't survive for very long.

I'm sorry to hear about your favorite one

I also bought a fish from Walmart, I think it was a Fantail. But I had him for two years! And it was a him because I found him doing the mating chase with my Red Capped Oranda and my orange Telescope eye

I tried separating them with a divider in one part of the tank. When they were done I kept the divider up for a couple days. I actually saw 1 fry that had hatched, but when I went to get my dad it disappeared. It was cool while it lasted. Eventually, I lost every goldfish I had to dropsy, except for my bubble eye. He had dropsy, but his swelling went down and came back to normal. Sadly he got a severe case of finrot and that did the trick. I found that putting a slice of orange in the tank for them to nibble at helped a lot to prevent it.

I have no idea what happened to that one...I never saw any symptoms of anything....he was fat...but didn't have dropsy... Just ate a lot...lol I'd had him for at least 6 months before he died and he had grown to about 6"

lol That sounds pretty big compared to mine. My fantail never reach more than 4 maybe 4.5 inches. I also remember one time when I was first starting out, I had him and 3 other goldfish from walmart in a 10 gallon tank (didn't know much at the time) and I saw a water tick on his dorsal fin. Melafix took care of that, but from then on I never saw another tick again. Those things are so creepy looking

Well he was a wakin....so they get to about the same size as any other wild body type goldfish, about 12." Fantails, which are short bodied usually get around 6."
