Hi everyone,
So one of my chooks have a bit of poo sticking to the feathers around their bum. It doesn’t seem to be a problem at the moment, as it’s only a small amount. We have been giving them a lot of apple lately, which I know makes their poo a bit runnier. So if anyone has any suggestions about washing their feathers/bum that would be very helpful 🙂 I’ll try to get some photos soon. Also, if anyone knows when the situation gets serious or I should be worried, that would also be really helpful.
Thanks for your time 😊

I would probably just trim off the poopy bits if you’re worried just be careful
My girls have extremely floofy bums so they do get poop stuck sometimes
I’ve heard if there’s a lot of poop they can get flystrike which is very unpleasant

I highly doubt this is the case but if the runny poop gets serious it can be a sign of internal parasites.
Okay, thanks for letting me know. I don’t think that’s the case, but I’ll keep an eye on it 🙂

I have a Plymouth Barred Rock that is a little weirdo. She doesn't squat when she poos. I noticed she kept getting a messy bum and when watching the others, they all squat down to poo. She doesn't, though. She just lets it rip!

I tried trimming without bathing but it was disgusting. So I soaked her in warm water and then trimmed her carefully then dried her with a low heat blow dryer. Not too close to overheat her. Be careful trimming the feathers because some feathers have blood supply in them.

This is the best photo I could get, will try again tomorrow
