Maybe a couple weeks ago, my parents helped me reconfigure the old coop. Took out all the old “things” the previous owners built (yes, even the girls favorite old nest box!), and transformed the coop space from mostly wasted to mostly usable & practical. Same door still on same wall. Same pop door in the same spot down low on the right wall. But now, the left wall makes up a “nesting wall” with their boxes and a ladder that passes right in front of their higher boxes (for convenience) before leading to the lower of the 2 roosting bars. We put wooden risers on each side of the back wall & strategically positioned 2 roost bars on them so hopefully no one will be pooped on from above! Next project was the poop board wide enough to span the roost area from side to side. And deep enough that it will come out slightly farther than the bottom roost. Strong plywood for the base. Left over vinyl flooring planks from house renos. Attached with Weld-Bond glue and a few super tiny nails in a couple spots, and of course, the 1x2’s that i screwed down to every layer as my edges. The white is a mold & mildew killing & prevention primer. Everything primed in white is about to be painted a gray color called “Pencil Sketch” that I used on all my cabinetry in the house.

Honest opinions please....
So far......
•Do you think that once I add the sand that those edges will be deep enough to contain mess?
•Does anyone else see something I should change?

I’ll add a couple more pics once it’s painted and installed

looks really nice. In response to your question of if 1x2s are tall enough. From my experience, I would recommend going a little taller. I used 2x2s around the edge of my poop board and that seems to be enough. The 1x2 may be a little on the short side. Also, instead of sand I would look for sweet pdz which is sold as a stall refresher for horses. That helps with the odor as well. We just started using that this year and it makes a big difference.

I use PDZ in my poop trays and I used 1X@'s but a 1X3 for the front. Here is a pic of my setup. There is a cleanout door on that back wall.

Yes, sides are a bit low.
And make sure you support the board fully.
I too used a thin piece for the bottom.
Poop boards are 3/16 Luan with 2x2 edges screwed in from the bottom.
They sit on the brackets with just a couple screws going thru back edges into shed studs.

One big error here is that the brackets should be long enough to support board at front edge, I had to add extensions when laun started to sag.
