poop board ??

How wide should the poop board be? (or as my husband asked: how far over the edge of the roost will the chicken's rear end stick out?

A 2' wide piece extending 12" in each side of the roost does it. The hens do turn around in the night so your board should extend on both sides although most droppings will be toward the back. Good luck!

I find that a droppings board 14-16" wide (with the roost centered over it) will catch the great majority of poo. A little bit, esp. squirty cecal poos, will go beyond it, but with a wider board you do get into a situation of diminishing returns and personally I find 14-16" to be quite satisfyingly adequate.
