Hey y'all. Supernewbie here. I've read that the roosts should be at least 18" away from the wall so that poop won't get all over the walls. I assume this means that the poop hammock should extend 18" beyond the actual roost on the non-wall side as well?

I was surprised, but my chickens seem to poop pretty much straight downward, with no wall splashing issues. Roost is about 12 inches from the wall with poop board with sand/pdz about 12 inches below. It's about 10 inches wide and catches 95% of poop. Three feet wide (at least I think that's what you're saying) would be unnecessarily wide based on my experience.

Can depend on how far the hammock(or poop board) is from roost,
but yes center roost over hammock.

My roost is 12" from wall centered over a 24" board.
Roost is 8" above board.
18" would be better if you've got the space,
keeps big cockbirds tail feathers from getting knarly rubbing against wall.
