poop in nest boxes

some of my hens perch on the edge of there nest box at night. Which leads to them getting nasty.. I have an idea that the openings to the boxes are a little big 14x14 .
I think the perch has enough room on it. The perch is square , maby it would help to make it a tree branch? Any ideas

make sure your roosts are higher than the nest boxes.. they will want to perch on the highest thing they can

my three youngest and their sissy roo sleep IN the nest boxes...

My flock did this once due to an error on my part.

Make sure the roost:
* is higher than the nest box
* has easy access via ramp or lower perch or ground
* is free of drafts

I have had this same issue, except our box is an exterior mount so maybe they are being lazy and hanging in the nest box and pooping?
