poop matted feathers

My RI hen has matted feathers under her vent....like she had some diarrehia and it got on some feathers and now seems to be a build up on there. Should I put her in a warm soapy water and wash it off or should I let it be?

I usually just trim the poopy feathers, using a small pair of children's scissors with blunt ends. Much easier than washing and drying, and no more poop build-up because the feathers have been trimmed.
