Hoping that this is the right forum to post this question:

Is there a problem with having poop on the back feathers of older chicks (age six weeks)? Two of my pullets have poop all over their backs. I suspect it is from others pooping over top of them when they were roosting. It has been stuck to the feathers for a few days. I thought she would groom it off, but hasn't and it's kind of sticky and gross!

I don't want to handle her. lol.

I know they are going to be somewhat dirty, lol, but should I clean it off?

I would put them in a sink or tub of warm water and soak it off.

Then I would rearrange my roosts so no one can get pooped on.

Thanks ddawn. The roost is a temp roost in the (gulp) brooder they are *still* in. The coop is almost done, and patience is a virtue, right?

I will wash the chook tomorrow. My DS can help, she and he are good pals!

My chickens were ready to go to a coop before the coop was ready, too....

HUM...yeah......fun mess......just a warm bath, you will need to soak awhile...but it will help!
