Our coop has a timber flooring covered with oil cloth, a plastic sheeting that's used for table coverings and cheap floor covering in some homes. It washes down fairly easily if I get the timing right. Too soon and I spread sludge everywhere. Too late and liquid dries so that it's hard to wash off. Other stuff just brushes out into a pan. I'm putting down scrap ply panels under the perches now. They can be removed for easier cleaning but it's impossible to get them properly clean.
I'm looking for ideas for effective poop trays, please.
Looking ahead, I'm tempted, in the next coop that I build, to use an earth floor raised about 18" above ground level. It could be raked out like a cow shed. Would there be any drawbacks to this method?
