Poop question from newbie - what is the dark brown slimy stuff that really stinks? the regular poop doesn't seem to smell much, but I can sure tell when someone's done one of the other kind - it also coats the roosts and seems to soak in, so I can't scrape it off.

Sounds like you might be describing cecal poop.

I don't know the answer to your question but have wondered the same thing. It reminds me of the 1st poos babies take after being born...all sticky and it takes 15 dozen wipes to clean it off!!!

I've wondered this too .... i call it tar poop, cuz it's like tar. Eeewww.

It is called cecal poop. A chicken has one every 8 to 10 poops. It is normal, but very unpleasant.

Thanks, all - as usual very helpful info - the pictures were great - of course, makes you wonder -just a little - about someone who goes around photographing chicken poops!
