My 1 year old Plymouth Rock hen has had an poopy butt. It’s not getting better on its own like I hoped. I want to try soaking her in some warm water to soften it up so I can pick it out of her feathers, but I’m not sure what water temperature to use. Any tips would be appreciated!

Hi, and welcome to BYC! :frow

I had an older hen that had poopy butt her whole life. Probiotics is supposed to help, but it didn't help her.

I cut off what I could with a kitchen scissors then soaked her butt in lukewarm water with a few drops of Dawn dishsoap in it to get what was close to her skin off.

After that, I just kept her butt shaved and she never had the issue again.

I would pull of any dry poop and trim any excess poop and fluff. You can use warm water that feels warm to you, but not too hot on your wrist. Use some dish soap. A 2 gallon bucket or a dish pan works well.
