my hens are about 2 years old and their butts are covered in poop. i know that that can kill day old chicks but can it kill adult hens? if i need to clean it off how do i do it?

It probably won't kill your adults unless you leave it on there and they can't poo. But the fact that there is poo there means something is wrong. They may need wormed, they may be sick. I would wash them with warm water *gently* be careful not to accidently tear any skin and worm them with Ivermectin or Eprinex. Good luck!

Mine had a poopy butt too, but I figured with below freezing weather that started the caking up. I brought her in and kept putting a warm paper towel on it to soften it up. Then I took the scissors and clipped the rest off. She has not had anymore problems since being cleaned up.

the weather is starting to warm up so i will clean them up and see what happens

thanks guys for replying
