I have a Blue Orp chick who is ROUGHLY 3 weeks (correct me if Im wrong, Tori) old and is just not feathering out or growing like its hatch-mate. Though she behaves much like the others when Im out with her (brooder is in the coop), she is noticeably smaller than her buddy maybe 2/3 the size he is. She started to get her first row of wing feathers in at least a week and a half ago. As the feathers grew out, they became much thinner and wavy at the base and then they just stopped growing. The other chicks wings are almost completely feathered out and she still has this one, scraggly row of wing feathers. I originally had 4 babies and am now down to just these two. The two that passed had very similar, though much more severe, issues along with lethargy, pasty butt and lameness. After the first chick died, I researched, thought it might be rickets, switched them to medicated chick starter and beefed up their water with some ACV and vitamins. My second chick died the day after I changed their diet. I have no idea what is happening to my babies and I really dont want to lose any more its so heartbreaking. I also added two more Splash Orps to the brooder last week and Im hoping its not something that will affect them . . . . ??? I am a TOTAL chicken newbie and am at a complete and utter loss here. Anyone have any ideas?
Here are the pics . . .
The hatchmates
You can see how the one's wings are mostly feathered-out here
Little chick's wing feathers
Big chick's wings - his feathers are a little sparse in places, too, but he's feathering out nicely.
