My pekin duck has been trying for three years to set a nest, but this is the first year the eggs are actually fertilized. This girl hides her nests so well it takes me days to find them, days! She builds spectacular nests with lots of cushion and high sides. For the past month since we lost a cayuga to a racoon we have been locking the ducks up at night and letting them roam all day. Sketchy holds that egg in until she's let out and RUNS to her nest to lay. The spot she picked is not optimal and she keeps breaking her eggs. Three gone now. I decided to finally let her hatch a clutch instead of gathering them to sell, but now I don't know if I should gather and toss what is there and throw in the towel or gather the eggs and hope she picks a better spot.
I don't know, I'm venting... Um sure she's frustrated too...
