My chicken is about 3 months old, and has until now been perfectly healthy. Today when she woke up, she began holding her foot up off the ground. Her breathing is also a bit raspy, and under her beak towards her neck feels a little sweaty. She's still eating and drinking ok, but she looks like she's in pain. What shall i do? Is she ok?

Thanks. No, there doesn't seem to be anything stuck in the foot, and there is no visible sign of injury. She will put it on the ground to walk, but limps when she does this. It isn't curled up as she raises it, just lifted up

check good between the folds and such...Carla (mod) just posted similar to what you are saying and found some tiny little mud balls which she removed ... bird fine after so that was apparently the problem.

Hi I just went threw this with my rooster. He was holding his foot up and limping. I let him go for a day or 2, I thought it was a sprain. He was still limping so we caught him I noticed a very small blister with puss on the very bottom. I think he had a sliver or stepped on a bee. I use foam soap and gave it a big squirt on the bottom of his foot. I let it set for about a min. Then I cleaned it with iodine solution. I rinsed that off, put some neosporin on it. He was all better 4 days after.

thanks for your replies. i did look earlier for any visual signs, and i just got a soapy sponge to give it a clean anyway, but there is nothing there. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a simple sprain and see how it goes
