I'm designing a school gardening program and I'm wondering if popcorn is a feasible option? I've never grown it before myself. I'm thinking the kids in the program could have a harvest party and everyone gets a bowl of popcorn, but I have no idea how many plants per child they would need to grow for that to work.

Popcorn tends to have smaller ears, but I'm not real familiar with it as I've only grown it a time or two.

I think each stalk will produce 1-3 ears. From my reading it will take 1-2 ears for the average serving. You could plant some, and than plan to use some store popping corn in case you don't get enough. Kids could compare the flavor?

I think you'd have to plant a lot to feed everyone. Not sure how big your garden is. It is fun to grow.

Thank you!!
