What kinds of poultry are popular where you live.

I live in Missouri and it seems like Auracaunas, Marans and Seabrights are what's going now.

locally, most people just want good layers. They like RIR and BR. Now the people that are into chickens like Marans, Ameraucana's and all breeds of bantams.

RIR's and Barred Rocks are pretty popular. And y'know, you can never count out silkies either

The people trying to breed Marans and, of course "Americanas".

I had a friend, took me down to look at his cuckoos/give me some eggs. The egg colors of his new flock was pretty poor, wanted me to see if it was because "they are too old". Got down there.... HALF or more of his flock had yellow legs. "Well, ____, why do they have yellow legs?" "Oh, we like the yellow legs better. The ones with white legs look sickly."

And then, of course the people trying to sell their EE's as Ameraucanas or Araucanas. Tried to buy a EE from the state fair - called the guy, asked how much he wanted for her, what color egg she laid. "Oh, she lays brown. We're asking 25$ for her. She's from some very important show stock, her daddy won best of breed at our county fair."

Don't get me wrong, there are some great breeders around here, but they aren't very prominent as they don't sell stock.
