We recently purchased a few bearded silkies, splashes and blue partridges...but my wife saw a few porcelains and lavendars and wants to get a couple of each, and she is also considering attempting to raise a few show birds and do a little showing on her own. But are the aforementioned colors actual legitimized colors, or what are they classified as if not? I have seen the 7 colors that can be shown, so what are porcelains and lavendars? Different names for other colors, or what? I am sorry if this has been asked before on here, but there are many pages to browse through to find the answers to these questions. Also, are Non Bearded silkies shown much? I googled Silkie show birds and it seemed as if virtually all of them were bearded. Thanks ahead of time

As you saw there are the recognized varieties (colors) then there is a classification called AOV (all other varieties) that is the what porcelain and lavender are currently entered as.

Once upon a time the only recognized variety of silkie was white. Now we have recognised varieties of white, black, blue, splash, buff, grey & partridge, each in bearded and non-bearded. Lavender is close to having a qualifying meet, which will hopefully result in recognition. Porcelain is still quite a ways from that--it still has quite a bit of development and recorded breeding time needed. As Robin said, non-recognised varieties can be shown as AOV--in fact they MUST be shown to become recognized. Non-recognised varieties cannot place above Best of Variety or Best AOV.
