Incubating is on day 12. I have 1 porous egg. Candled today... There is an air pocket and a dark shadow of a fetus in there but no movement that I can see... There is one really dark area right next to the air pocket but it's still. What should I do? I don't want an explosion but I don't want to kill a chick either.... Help!

Let it incubate. You wont see all the action as porous shells are hard to see into but you will see the shadow of chick getting bigger.

It's very rare for an egg to explode. I don't even know if a chicken egg will fill with that much bacteria in 21 days to do so. It seems more likely with a duck egg as they take 28 days.

Thank you. I'm just so worried! It's my first hatch and is so stressful and exciting at the same time!

I am in my first hatch too. So porous eggs can possibly hatch ok? I noticed a couple of porous ones at day 7 when I candled. Hopefully yours hatch fine.

I had a batch of shipped eggs that were very porous. I have 10 out of 17 of them. They ALL developed, but operator error lead to them not hatching.

Well that's a relief. I have a broody sitting on them so fingers crossed no operator error
