I am not sure if anyone here lives in Porterville or not. However, it will be going before the city council at the May council meeting to broaden the laws to allow chickens within the city limits. Currently only some zoning areas that have lots 1/2 acre or larger are allowed chickens. We are trying to get that broadened to allow all city lots to have chickens in appropriate housing (if you live here you know that there is a very serious issue with dogs roaming the streets).

Some if the city councilmen are on board, but they want to hear from the public. If you would like to see backyard chickens allowed in Porterville, please write a letter and send to the City Manager (John Lollis). This needs to be done THIS WEEK.....the council meeting is coming up quickly.

The item got tabled at the city council meeting to be addresses at the next meeting in two weeks. If there is anyone here from Porterville, CA PLEASE contact the 5 city council members ASAP. We need your support! Councilman Ward is on board, he also has another councilman that is in support. We need one more vote. Councilman McCracken is the most likely to support it if he knows there is enough interest.
