Someone told me the eggs HAVE to be big end up...Another said it's okay to have them on their side...Which is it?

When storing before incubating I keep them big end up. When incubating they are on their side as I don't use a auto turner.

If you don't have them in a turner its the laying on their side with the larger end towards the top...if they are in a turner you have them big end up, small end in the egg cup.....

the reason is so the chick will position properly when it is time for it to "sound" and go into the air sack and not drown. BUT IF while you are candling you find that the air sack is on the SMALL end (which has happened to me) Mark it plainly and keep it with the small end tilted up. Theoretically if it is on it's side it SHOULD naturally do this as the air sack grows but sometimes it doesn't.
