Positon of roost and nesting box - Help please.

Hello

Hoping you can help. Am just in the final stages of building my coop. The position of my nesting box is at floor height (so my children can access the nesting box from outside. I have a 6' ledge that the birds will need to hop over before entering.

With reference to my picture, do you think that its ok to place the roosts (red) in the position as indicated? I'll build a poop board (yellow) below and then the chickens will need to walk under in order to enter the nesting box. Should be about 18" clearance.

I'm unable to place the roosts in the opposite end as that is where I enter the coop from.

The plan seems fine to me. The roosting poles are quite high, so i hope that you are not intending to have large breed chickens - although bedding in the coop will help soften the landing.

I would use that set up as it is my preference as to what I am going to do in my coop except my nests will be under the poop board vs. slightly behind it but that will work great for your set up.

Just be sure that there is enough room between roosts. There should be a foot clearance between each, and foot from that back wall, so that the birds can easily maneuver the roosts.
