Not too sure what happened but Friday night as I was feeding and closing up I notice one of my hens not moving and kinda of off in the corner like she was hiding. I went to check her out and she tried to get up and walk. Her right leg could not support her. She is a heavy hen and can barely fly but I did catch her up and went to check her out. Could feel nothing wrong with the leg - can you feel if the bone is broke? - but she can not walk. I brought her in and keep her in a very large dog crate until this morning. She is eating and drinking and pooping well - all seems normal. I moved her outside this morning into a very large wire crate under the shade. Her sisters came by to check her out and she did a little talking to them. She does scoot around some but the leg seems to just kinda of stick out. She does get it drawn up under her. Any help/ideas?

If you can post a photo that might help. So far it sounds like you have done the right thing by separating her to give her time to rest her leg. She could have strained it really badly perhaps.

She is full leg feathered so kinda of hard to see other than her foot sometimes is sticking out. She is so alert and a very red comb. So I do not think that she is sick. How long do you think this would take to heal if she has just pulled or hurt it somehow? It seems to be from the "elbow" down that is the problem. Not sure if the rooster got a little too excited or she has jump off of something although not sure how she could get that high.

Ok thank you so much! I will just keep moving her into the laundry room at night and out each morning so the others can say hello. And hopefully she will heal.

Ok well a week has gone by and she does try to stand on the one good leg. The only thing that kinda concerns me is that the foot on the hurt leg seems to not move with the leg. I check her several, several times a day and she always has the leg and foot tucked under her now where last week she did not. Is there anything addtional i.e. feed, treats, vitimans, etc that may help her along?
