It's a good idea to check your hens to see if they have any lice/mites. If they do, then you'll want to treat them.
but mites you can squish under your finger, lice have a harder shell sort of like a flea. These things either way are an icky pain in the donkey. We use Natural Care+ from Walmart. I usually bathe the bird first which everyone will boo but it takes the majority of them off. After a nice warm, not hot, blow dry, also not popular with others and then spray bird head to claw. I spray myself and my hair with it. I do this because while I'm told they don't survive on humans the day or so before they die is nerve-wracking and itchy.
