We have a golden comet hen that is acting very lathargic. it is the hottest day so far here and i didn't know if it would do it? all of the other birds are acting fine. any thought and opinions would be greatly appreciated!!!

I haven't had chickens long so I am not much help but was she panting or anything to show that she was overheated other than being lethargic? Since she is the only one doing it, I wouldn't suspect overheating so much. What is the temp? How old is she? I wouldn't give her a bath personally unless I was sure it was overheating and being in the cool house should help if that is the problem. Wish I could help more.

No panting just when she lays down she is kinda spreading, kinda opening her wings. she has been in the house now and has shown no signs of getting better, other than she is standing now rather than sitting. it is about 80 here, its not that hot, just the hottest day we have had so far. i feel so bad for her bc i don't know what to do.

I would have to agree, if she wasn't panting and if none of the other hens seem affected by the heat I would be less likely to suspect that.

Could she be eggbound? Any other symptoms besides lethargic with droopy wings?

We just had two weeks of 100+ temps and my girls panted a lot but did fine so I would think 80s would be no problem. Hmmm...

Hopefully some more experienced folks will chime in. Good luck!

I don't think its overheating but again I am new at this. Does she have blood in her poop? Is it constant diaharrea (never can spell that!)? Is it watery or brown? Do you notice anything unusual around her vent? Any mites or missing feathers?

Try giving her yogurt or some boiled eggs for a little treat to see if she will eat anything. Maybe someone with more experience will jump in.

i don't notice anything wrong with her vent, but i am new to this. she is only 11weeks so i don't think she is egg bound. i didn't think it was heat either but my DH did. her diaharrea (SP?) is basiacally water with a little bit of yellow, that is also runny. poor girl
