I have an Americana hen and I have no idea what is wrong with her. She is young hasn't laid any eggs yet. Yesterday I went out to the coop and she was sitting next to the water container sleeping. I picked her up brought her in the house and she slept all day she is pooping. About 4 o'clock she started eating and drinking so I thought she will be ok so at 7 o'clock I took her outside with the other hens she did fine and went to bed fine. This morning she jumped out of the house wouldn't eat or drink I took her over to the water and she drank a little. Left her and waited a little while went back to check on her and she was sitting and sleeping again. She is doing the same thing as yesterday just sleeping and pooping. No signs of sickness and no egg stuck in her either.

It does sound sick. Get her drinking vitamins and electrolytes, keep her warm and calm. She could have worms or a virus. Is she showing any difficulties breathing? Is it really hot out? Could she have Water Belly?

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Sorry to hear you have an under the weather girl :hugs What is her poop like? Any signs of blood in it? I would separate her somewhere quiet from the rest of your flock and get some electrolytes or similar into her. Also if she is not interested in eating try and tempt her with some scrambled egg or tuna. You can also post in the emergencies section. Wishing you the very best of luck with her, I hope she is back to full health soon :fl

You might try tempting her with mashed hard boiled egg, moistened with some plain yogurt., cooked oatmeal, and even watermelon to keep her hydrated.

Great suggestions already. I wish you luck with her!

Her poop is fine and she is eating fine. She has been in the house for a few days. She sleeps till 4 in the afternoon then she wakes up eats and drinks. I put her outside about 6 once it's a little cooler and she does fine and goes in the hen house for bed. I have never heard of water belly and what do you do for worms?

Water Belly is seen in laying hens that have exhausted themselves. They suffer from liver problems that leads to liquid leaking into the abdomen.

There are a variety of natural and chemical ways to get rid of worms in chickens. Also, keeping the coop clean can help.
