Just finished a hatch of mail order eggs, two different breeds (Crested Cream Legbar (18 eggs) and Bielefelder (20 eggs)) from two different sources. Same incubator, both breeds evenly distributed on the turner. Additionally, I put half of each in a hatching box to give them more room. During lockdown 9 of 18 legbars pipped and 11 of 20 Biels pipped. Similar success to that point.

However, 7 of the legbars stalled after pipping (several half zipped). All of Biels that pipped popped out without issue. results were the same in both boxes. After 30 hours wait, I attempted to assist 6 of the 7 that had made enough progress. I think most will make it.

My first inclination would be to attribute the problem to operator error during the incubation. But everything handling wise was the same and conducted under the same conditions. So, what might be the cause? Different handling while shipped? Different shell densities? Age of the eggs? Breed?
Curious...thanks.
