Hello! A couple of months ago I bought a pair of snowy call ducks from an auction. I made them a pen with two pools, a house, and there very own dock. I want to give them more room now as my hen is setting and I want there to be more room IF she hatches ducklings. Can you PLEASE post pictures of your duck pens. I want ideas on how to make it safe but roomy and fun for them.

Do you have pictures of yours? call babies are so darn wee, i wouldn't think you'd need more expansive and beside they can fit through the smallest of openings.

My calls only have a classic raised call duck house(wire with a box) but i am going to make them a pen so they can have grass and a larger pool, my plan is to secure down a dog run, they have height, strong chain link and so forth.

Thats what i was thinking. I was thinking about using chicken wire to make a pen and sink the bottom of the wire like 1.5 feet in the ground... and then put an angled roof on it somehow....

If you'll use it as overnight, you will need equally strong wire, if it's only daytime not as much that is more to keep birds in. My big chickens have a dog run, the top is sealed in with lattice (wood) and it's extra wired too. So is almost the entire pen, i want to keep wild birds OUT.

Calls are trickier due to the size, their heads can fit through place most mature birds can no longer, especially the young ones. i would opt for a small house that they can be enclosed in overnight and secure the run.

Mine will be locked inside the elevated pen/box combo in the dog run, the elevated is pretty secure that said the wire is a touch larger than i prefer for overnight so i'd rather add the dog run around it, bonus is it's elevated so doesn't take up space in the main run that way and offers sunblock.

I have a large dog run with chicken wire around the sides and over the top(its under a big tree). If you wanted shade you could get something like this http://www.kvsupply.com/shady-dog-6-x-8/&refcode=AMZPROAD?CA_6C15C=976235184&CA_6C15C=976235184 instead of an actual roof. If they had some sort of shelter, they wouldn't really need one except to keep predators out and provide shade.

The only issue with that is it's not predator proof so something to consider, i do have shade cloth over mine BUT the roof is again fully enclosed with wood lattice with wire too.
