I am so new to gardening/landscaping that I just don't really know what I want to do with my backyard. I do know that it's sort of ugly the way it is, and if I can't get new grasses to grow back there because I have too many animals, then I'll have to think of something else to do. Being a kind of visual learner, I wouldn't grasp any advice if it's not in picture form. So, who wants to post pictures of their backyards? I've seen some great yards around Portland, but not from any of my close friends, so I can't really pick their brains about what to do. I'll go first with yard pics, starting from before we did anything to the way it is now.

A nearly complete view from the upstairs window when we first bought the house and my husband killed half the grass on the garden side:

Now you go!

Thanks guys! There's just so much more I want to do. Mostly, I want the dogs' side of the yard to be a place where people would want to relax instead of just being a wasteland with packed mud.

This spring and summer, I want to lay a path (that's one thing I could use suggestions on), build a cob oven, and rehabilitate the planter where the lone rose bush is. It's got some plants that I find boring, but I have no idea what might be more interesting.
