I consider myself an amateaur bricklayer. I have loads of brick work on my property. Unlike a professional, my brick work seems to take hours to do very little. If I were to make a brick house, which I'm considering years from now, I would build my ideal house from wood first and make sure I really like it. Further, I don't think you could do it right unless you have some metal parts thrown in. For example, a sliding metal door that pulls/pushes sideways through a slit in bricks would be slick.
