I thought it would be nice to have a thread to compare notes and share pics, especially for us first timers. How's about we post how many eggs we set, whether they were shipped or not, what kind, how many, % hatch..blah, blah, you get the idea.

I've forgotten what I've posted where so I'm going to put it here all in one place.

I bought:

14 Bev Davis Black Copper Marans

18 Gene C1 Black Copper Marans

5 Blue Orpingtons

And, I had 5 of my own mixed eggs for what would have been a total of 42 eggs.

Of the 18 Gene C1 Marans, 1 egg broke in shipping, and 5 candled clear by lockdown. 12 viable. 7 hatched. Edit: Make that 8!

Of the 5 Blue Orpingtons, 2 arrived smashed, 1 more had a hairline crack and was infertile as well as another so I ended up with 1 viable. 1 hatched.

Of the 14 Bev Davis Marans, 1 candled clear at lockdown. 13 viable. 9 hatched.

I'll update this with pics in a minute.

My 5 eggs, 4 pipped, one died before hatching, 3 hatched.

Total: 31 viable eggs, 20 hatched. 17 of the 20 were shipped. Edit: 21 hatched! Eight Gene C1 Marans, so 18 shipped eggs hatched.

Well I am in lockdown right now. The eggs are all home grown Rhode Island Reds. They are due to hatch on Wednesday the 23rd. I started with 15, but after candling I am down to 13. So far I have 1 pip, but I can see 6 other eggs wiggling slightly. Right now my daughters and I are just in excitement mode, I hope to have an update and hopefully pics here soon.............

24 olive eggers sent from Dinahmoe
21 made it to lockdown, 18 hatched, but lost 2 that had large external yolk sacks.

I was real happy with this hatch.

I now have 15 W/BW AM's, and 6 White AM's, in the bator and due next month. I can only hope I get the same results with these.

I counted too soon, I've got another BCM from the Gene C1 line! It's the egg that was rocking yesterday but hadn't pipped. I tapped and listened last night and it didn't make any noise so I thought it hadn't made it.

Awwww, that's so cute! One of mine was supposed to be a blue Orpington, I think it came out a splash.

Here's the one that came out dragging a brown, unabsorbed yolk sac..

I cut off most of what was hanging and the rest dried up. She seems to be doing just fine!

Here's some close-ups of the BCM's.

I've got rags in there for them to snuggle in, and it's divided down the middle to keep the two different BCM lines apart. Not too attractive, but it works.

of the four i have three splash and one blue, or is she black

i don't have anything for them to snuggle with, i'll add something when i get home.

I'm seriously wishing for an old fashioned feather duster right now. I might see if they have one at the grocery store, think I've seen it there.

My first clutch was 13 home laid eggs 2 MGB and 11 salmon faverolle mixes by lock down I had 9 eggs one that looked strange when candled but I left it in anyway. I had 4 pip and one died before making it out the other three look great. I now know two of the eggs had detached air cells so that probably had something to do with why they didn't hatch over all I'm pleased with the results it was my first time with this incubator and I had some unstable temps for 2 days around the 12 day mark.

Just hatched

Clutch 2 is due Sat. it started with 10 2 duck eggs(where not set at the same time as the chicken eggs), 2 MGB, and 6 salmon faverolle mixes. I candled them this morning and one mix egg was clear one is cloudy and the two duck eggs look like they died early on.
