I've got a whole cabinet full of guns, but the only ones I keep handy are a .380 handgun and a .22 rifle for two and four legged pests, respectively.
The only four legged pest I've killed was a groundhog that was digging around in my polebarn, but I got him from the front porch with a 30/30 from about 200'. Open sights, too. I could really puff up about what a good shot I am -- and do, occasionally
-- but the reality is that I couldn't replicate that shot again in a million tries.
I consider it the country equivalent of a hole in one.
I can't imagine trying to use a pistol in that type of situation, though....
