12 days ago my hen and her chick were out in the yard together, her chick was hatched in June and doing wonderful until recently..I thought for sure the little thing was a goner, stumbling and curled toes..then the splits. Made a sling with holes for her legs,to keep her from sitting too much and to straighten/strengthen her legs. Then B complex pill dissolved in water 3-4X a day given with a dropper and foods high in B vitamins. Happy to report she stopped doing the splits two days ago, grooms herself and just started small attempts at walking. Her toes are not totally back to normal yet. She is also WAY behind compared to the chicks I raised without a broody hen, smaller and poor feathering, she's bigger and feathers are coming in now. Hope this helps some one.

Good for you!
Do you check mill dates on each bag of feed? Fresh is best!
If she has a higher than normal need for certain vitamins, saving her life is wonderful, but don't hatch any of her eggs.

I shouldn't of hatched eggs from her mother period. Lesson learned!

I also think she didn't get as much feed as she should of. I watched my flock a few days ago andthe mom to this chick, she's the last to get scraps/treats and just pokey when food is given. She's kind of a ditsy thing, she cute tho :hugs

I had a chick similar as described here.

The first impression by thread responders was a Marek's sufferer. No one else displayed any symptoms however and by that point, every single bird would have been exposed. No going back, so attempted to save chick.

I happened to suddenly acquire a young chick with a brood of new ducklings. I put my Gimpy chick in with these guys.
Brooder is a baby packnplay. It became the nursery for Gimpy and friends for a number of weeks.
Gimpy ate chick crumbles with added B Complex vitamins (the ducks niacin supplement.)

Gimpy (a bantam something) is now happily running around with ducklings, random chick friend, and the rest of my flock. Gimp can fly short distances and roost. Seems fixed :)
