potential respiratory issue

My flock has been hit hard with molt and constantly flucatating temperatures from the weather this year. My almost 2 year old lavender orpington seems like she may potentially have a breathing problem? She opens her mouth slightly, breathes open mouthed for a little bit with an occasional gulping motion, then closes it and resumes her normal behavior. Sometimes she goes hours without doing it. She's also been having liquidy poops but doesn't seem to have any specific symptoms of anything else. Is this something to be concerned with or is she just having a difficult time with her molt?

Mine have been doing almost the identical thing. Charlotte, a chocolate hen, especially doing that open-mouthed breathing.

I just upped all of their vitamin support by putting Poultry Cell in their water. A week or so later I noticed she wasn't as bad, and now it's two weeks later and she's not only not breathing like that and she grew a lot of feathers back. The extra protein helps that.


I'd keep an eye on her though to be sure it's not getting worse, but if you can give them some extra vitamins/minerals, it'll help them fight whatever they may have.

Update: she had a big disgusting piece of hair stuck in her throat by a little bit of mucus. Got it out and she's already significantly happier
