I found poultry lice on one of my chickens yesterday. This morning I thought it would be prudent to check the whole flock, and sure enough, I've got an infestation. Not too serious yet, but I'd like to treat it as soon as possible. Yesterday I bought a spray containing permethrin at our local feed store, and the man there said it would be okay to put directly on the birds, but after reading the label more carefully, I'm not so sure. Here's a link to the product: https://www.domyown.com/clear-zone-double-impact-farm-fly-spray-p-8255.html

It's called Clear Zone Double Impact Farm Fly Spray, and it looks like pretty nasty stuff, for both hens and humans. I can wear a ventilator while putting it on them, but I can't protect them at all and I know their respiratory systems are delicate. Plus, they might ingest it while grooming. Is it safe to use? I've read elsewhere on the forum about Gordon's Permethrin 10, and I can get some of that tomorrow if it's safer. Thoughts?

I have spent sometime (curious) on researching this product. From what is stated about the product I would not use this directly on chickens. Their respiratory systems are much more delicate than ours. Get something meant for chickens or is known to be safe. I use Sevin 5 on all ages from day olds on up; even nest boxed where hens are brooding. An acquaintance tells me she even uses it with her canaries; can't get much safer than that.
