I guess the #1 possibility is human error? According to our calendar we are on day 20 with our Narragansett eggs. Well we had one today in the incubator with its leg pinned in the turner, it looks like it going to be just fine.

So I started candling all of them and found 3 or 4 more that are cracking their shells. I candled and put them in the incubator or hatcher based on how far receded the yolk sack was.

Other possibility, my hens are very sneaky about where they lay. They pasture with my sheep and I have to go find the nests. With this particular batch of eggs I was hoping the hens were still broody and were just gathering a clutch. Eventually I gave up on that and put them in the incubator. Could the day time heat have started the process? It was still getting cold at night, high 50's lower 60's.

Yes actually and some eggs are robust because a mother hen has to leave the nest and a fertile egg can hatch with a changing temperature.
