Power how-to ideas needed.

Pertinent information? Pertinent for who? My information only needed to be that I don't want house hook up so pertinent information on the status of my house electric is nobodys business!

As someone else said check out PremierOne. They have good solar chargers you can set the charger a good distance from the fence and run wire. Even buried if insulated.
Most solar chargers will run on just the battery for a week or more and then you can bring it in and charge it in an afternoon. Or just get a battery powered fence charger.

Mine just gets a couple of hours of sun and it keeps up except in December.

Water heaters typically take a lot of watts and are not very economical on a solar system.

You can also run a solar powered auto door fairly inexpensively.

If you do a search on this site for "solar powered coop" there are some great posts about solar powered things people h e built for their coops as well as complete systems.

Thank you both. :thumbsup
Not sure how I feel about automatic doors yet but good to know.

I do not have electricity to my coop or run. It's too far to run an extension cord. It is under a tree to provide summer shade so may not be solar accessible. I'm wondering about batteries. Heck I'm wondering if I can get anything at all to work!
I don't want to heat the coop. I am interested in electric fencing. I'm hoping to expand the run from it's current 10x10 to 10x30. The run is metal chain link dog run covered in hardware cloth and 1x2 fencing. I know Nothing about electric fencing so I need all the info I can get.
I might want to add a water heating system at some point. So there's that:confused: And I've been contemplating a small brooder in the coop I hope to build:oops:. I know, I know. I want the moon on a stick according to hubby.:smackFor now I'd be happy just to figure an electric fence, keeping in mind future possibilities.
If I figure this out do I need aprons? Wondered if I needed the expense of all the hardware cloth for my future extended run or could that money be used toward just the electric fence?:idunno
Once again, all ideas and advice gladly considered.
I did a post on my electric fence set-up which you might find useful. A good electric fence is very effective! https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/permanent-electric-fence-set-up-with-gate.1220629/
