Hi everyone..I live in south ga and we are known to have lots of thunderstorms with power outages. What do you do to keep your bator warm!!!

Just went through this last week! Eeek! So first I panicked! LOL! Seriously though, we do have a whole house generator. Normally we only turn it on if the power is going to be out for an extended period of time. But as soon as the power went out I started "hen pecking" my husband to get it running "my eggs, my eggs!!!". So our power was out that night for 5 hours. I know that my bator would not have held the heat because in the 20 minutes that it took him to get the generator up and going my bator lost 4 degrees. During that time I took a blanket and wrapped the bator. Beyond that if you have no power you are really at the mercy of the weather. I would try to carefully move the bator to the warmest room in the house. For us it is our downstairs bathroom. I have no idea why it holds heat but it gets nice and toasty in there with the door closed. The biggest think you need to do is pre-plan. You don't want to have to worry about what to do at the time it is happening while all while all you are thinking is "my eggs, my eggs!!!"

it really depends on the type of incubator you own and how long you think the power will be out for. (should state watts on the incubator near the plug outlet)

no one make a incubator that is designed for a power outage so you can use things like ups units( good for a few hours), battery powered inverters (good for 24hrs if you have a large battery) and generators (good until you realize that the gas station doesn't have power to pump gas)

I would have never thought about that...lol See where technology gets us???

I have ThermaCare heat wraps on hand just in case. I don't know how well they will work, but it's my back up plan. They are supposed to last 8 hours and I know those suckers get hot, so that's what I am trying if I ever need to. (Hoping I don't.)

Someone needs to design an incubator with an emergency (rechargeable) battery installed that will last at least 24 hours. I'm surprised Brinsea doesn't already have one. Then you could have a couple charged and on hand just in case. Or better yet, make them so that while the bator is on, the battery charges from the power used to run the incubtor....

I built mine to use 12v only as sw florida gets lots of power cuts. Planning on adding a marine battery and charger. Ran it on a lawn mower battery a few hours last week due to a power cut
