Surge protectors? what do they look like?

They're like a power strip. You can plug turner & incubator into them so they're protected from surges.

I am pretty sure my incubator isnt hooked up to a power surge protector then.. i sure hope the eggs are ok!

If your bulbs & thermometers are still working correctly, the Surge should not affect your eggs!
surges can cause them to malfunction/stop working, if they are still working it should be ok.

Do they? Or do they just make subjective claims?

What is a power strip protector? A $3 power strip with some ten cent parts installed. Then sells at $25 or $150. Costs more; therefore must be better? Instead, view the NC fire marshal who says why that threat exists.

Better is to do what every high reliability facility does. No power strip protectors. A properly earthed 'whole house' protector where AC wires enter the building. The effective protector connects surges harmlessly to earth before those surges enter the building. With or without a power strip protector, that surge might seek earth ground destructively inside the building. We spend tens or 100 times less money for the superior 'whole house' solution from more responsible manufacturers such as General Electric, Leviton, Intermatic, Siemens, or Square D. An effective Cutler Hammer solution sells in Lowes for $50.

Where does that power strip protector claim any protection in its numeric specs? It does not. It is called a surge protector. To many, that is sufficient to 'assume' it provides surge protection. It does - from surges that are typically not harmful. Either you need one properly earth 'whole house' protector (so those power strips do not create scary pictures) or you need nothing.
