I'm incubating chicken and duck eggs in my classroom. Last night we had storms come through and knocked out our power. I had 2 eggs that had pipped and one internal pip when I left school yesterday. When I got to school to check on them, the power was out and I had one fluffy chick and the other egg was zipped all around and the little beak was sticking out, but the membrane was dry and tough. When I got the incubator and brooder home, I went ahead and tore the membrane so she could get out. No bleeding....but she's just laying there....poor baby. I put her back in the incubator. I've still got 10 chicken eggs in there and 6 duck. The duck eggs still have 5 days. (I found out too late I should have staggered them....it's a learning experience for the teacher too!)
The good news is that I have 15 healthy chicks!
