I know they're easy supposedly, but my chick's head spot is throwing me a bit.

I bought her from a feed store in a pullet bin. I hadn't read the info on what to look for until afterward though. Ugh. Now I'm wondering if I picked one that might not be a pullet.

Her head spot is very faint and not well defined and without clear margins. She does have dark down her legs though and her down is uniformly black on her back. She's about 2 days old and has tiny tail feathers starting.

I'd REALLY appreciate help as I would need to go get another baby NOW if there's any question about her sex.
Thank you!!

Thanks so much, all three of you!

So the headspot being diffuse, small, and kind of lightly "spattered" in a few spots on back of her head doesn't matter or mean anything?

[I saw many others with bigger headspots but this one was the friendliest. Then once home I read about how easy they are to sex... Sheesh.]

Sexing is not always 100% accurate, even with the clues they give, so we could be wrong, but usually, the males have a band of "frosting" across the back of the head, along with the head spot on top. If that was at my house, I'd peg it as a pullet. On rare occasions, I've been wrong, but I'm fairly sure from those pics, you have a pullet.

Thank you, speckledhen.
I realize that there's no 100% method until an egg is laid etc. !
I appreciate your help and vote in favor of a pullet. Her legs are darker but it was the spot that did seem a bit diffuse, like what I might think was "frosting" but thanks for explaining it better. :)

[I have put together a small flock and they're all in the brooder together. I'd like to have them all grow up together and I don't want to have to try to add later and risk groups being formed, or hens getting picked on. So if this one were "iffy" then I'd go get another chick instead.]

Thanks again!
