My husband is a great guy and skilled at many things. Unfortunately, building is not one of his special gifts. We need to build a duck house for our ducks for the winter and would like to get started as soon as possible.

My question is, I know they have pre-fab houses but is there such a thing as pre-fab duck houses or coops that we can just assemble? I'm really nervous that if we don't go this route or hire someone to build a coop (which will most likely cost a whole lot of money) that we'll just be wasting money on materials that we build with if my husband attempts this and it doesn't come out right.

Any thoughts or ideas?

We needed a quick and easy fix for our burgeoning population of Muscovies & found a Plastic Resin shed that literally "snaps" together. It was on clearance for $650.00 and is 7.5' X 10'. We had it up and ready for the Scovies in about 3hrs. We figured we could always use it for other purposes if there comes a time when we no longer needed it for ducks. Washes easily and when it rains doesn't sound as loud as our metal roofed Muscovy house. There are also metal sheds that come in large panels that can be put together, they say, in about 4 hrs.

Got any teen aged boys in the neighborhood? I am not a builder myself and one day a neighbor kid stopped to watch then offer advise I stopped and had a cool drink with the kid and then called and got parent approval. 4 hours later I had a nice duck house and the kid had 3 $10 bills in his jeans and we were all very happy. He was in the voc. ed. track in school and did a better job than some of the professions hired for house re-model. Hired him a couple of times as bird-sitter when I was out of town.

The pen is pretty good and made from scrap lumber by me. Not so happy about the roof though. Hubby did that part
