I think I am going with the traditional barn red paint with white trim on my coop. Most big box stores have pre mixed barn red barn and fence paint. It is a lot cheaper price wise then many of the other outdoor paints. I am curious if any of you have used this stuff? I will probably only need 1 or 2 gallons. My coop is Smartside and is already primed. A decent quality outdoor paint seems to be $25.00-$35.00 and the pre mixed is $14.00 locally. Which have you guys used and how did it work out?

I've used latex "barn/fence paint" and it's about $16 per gallon, so it's probably comparable to yours. I've used it on everything from my barn to rabbit hutches; it holds up well and is easy to apply but you may need to put on more than 1 coat, and make sure your wood is clean. Don't use it for things that the chickens may stand on, because their sharp little nails will scratch the paint off. I painted a plywood rabbit hutch with this about 7 years ago and the paint hasn't peeled or faded excessively.

Thanks, that is what I was curious about. I thought since I won't need a whole lot and it is only about $15 more (give or take) to get a name brand paint and have it mixed to the same color then I might do that. If this stuff will last almost as long I might as well save a few dollars.

The stuff at HD worked perfect for me. I used both the red barn paint and the white fence paint for the trim. It's only been 6 months but it went on nicely. I used a thick 3/4" nap roller for the siding, and a brush for the trim. Siding looked good after one coat. I did two coats on the trim. Never mind the concrete splashed on the door - I had just poured the cement step.
