I hava buff orpington hen named Beaky. she was really hot and laying in dustbath. its been over eighty for a couple days so i brought her inside to spend the night to cool her off. (She's kind of pampered) i kept her inside for the next day and her poop was small dark chunks in yellowish liquid. in the chunks seem to be these odd green...spots? they're about halfe the size of a pea and seem to be made of plant matter but there are no plants in her run. her crop is slow to empty and she has lost her appetite a bit and is droopy. she had been this way for two and a half days and is staying inside. i have treid to cool her down but she's not acting hot. i am unable to provide pictures for a while and would be very thankful for the opinions of this comunity. Thank you.

How old is she? Does she or has she laid eggs with normal hard shells? Is her tail position up or down? How does her crop feel—empty and flat, full, firm, doughy, or puffy? Can you check it early morning before she eats or drinks to see if it empties overnight? Look her over for any signs of lice or mites. Poop pictures are welcome. The yellow liquid in her dropping may be bile, and green poops may be from not eating much. 80 degrees if there is shade, is not that hot for chickens. They do enjoy sometimes standing in a shallow pan of shaded water. I add more water stations and feed pans so everyone has a chance to get enough.

she's three years old. she mostly lays normal hardshelled eggs but lays one soft shelled egg about every month. her tail is up. i'd say her crop is doughy. it did not empty this morning but she is pooping more solid poop today. no lice or mites. where i live our temperatures arnt normal above 80 for days. do you have any experiance with green spots in poop? its really strange and i havnn't seen anything like this before.

It would be good to see an example of the poop. Soft shell eggs indicate a problem with calcium or a shell gland problem in her oviduct. I would offer her a human calcium citrate tablet once a day for a few days, in case she is having issues passing an egg. Calcium citrate with vitamin D is best, and under $9 at Walmart (Equate brand) but you could also use Tums or other calcium if that is what you have.

i am now pretty sure the green chunks in her poop is some form of plant matter. her poop is not liquid anymore, if she had a stuck egg her poop would only be liquid. I've been keeping chickens for seven years now and have dealt with egg blockages, crop problems before and all have had small liquid poop because that's all that can escape past the blockage. I feel rather confident that she doest have a stuck egg but thanks for your sugestion. she is also pale in the face and doesnt want to drink either. i have been syringe feeding her electrolyte water. any experiance with over heated hens? she was panting SO HARD when i found her and i usually dont see her so hot. maybe she's more suceptable to over heating because she's relativly used to being inside?

does any one have experiance with acorn poisoning? because there are alot of green acorn shells falling into the run from squirrels up in the oaks. Maybe that's what the green chunks are in her poop.

The acorns are so thick here that we have to rake them onto a tarp, then drag them down a ways to dump for the deer.

Our chickens and chicks, all of whom are free-ranging, have the opportunity to eat green (raw) or brown (or parts thereof). Do they? I do not know, but this is just how our property is, and they have free-ranged on it for eight years without an issue.
