I know I've seen at least one Big Islander on here, so maybe you can help me out. I'm in CA, but my friend in Wailea is thinking about starting with chickens, and we've been trying to figure out what his predator issues are likely to be.

We were thinking rats and mongoose, but....?

Can you help me help him?

Susan

* Rats, mongoose, DOGS, cats, any non-native snakes or other former "pets", hawks, HEAT and PEOPLE, would be my guesses. Oh, and hurricanes. P.S.: How much are eggs over there nowadays?? Last time I went to Oahu (LONG AGO), they were $3.OO a HALF dozen! I asked why, and the grocery mgr. said "no chickens on the island" I asked why not, he said, "5,OOO miles-- too far for them to fly!!" (rolleyes)

Isn't there a population of feral chickens on the island, I thought I read that somewhere. I know there are feral chickens in Key West if they have survived all the hurricanes lately.
