I just read this ad on Craig's List. I've never heard of a "predator avoidance breed". Have any of you?

"Baby Chicks $4.00 each standard run hatched from freerange chickens have good predator avoidance breed into them."

Yep, I would assume that's it. Another really good one is "not cared for, and thus very skittish and shy."

The only breeds I can think of that are great for free-ranging and avoidance of predators are Gamefowl and Araucanas. Gamefowl are pretty used to a "wild" situation, are very protective, great fliers, fast runners, etc. Araucanas are also super-fliers, fast runners, and have no tail, thus, nothing for a land based predator to snatch.

Chickens don't need to be fast running to dodge the predators. It depends on the breed. From my experience, dark cornish is the best breed to fight predators themselves. They are quite aggressive and specially broody mothers. The cocks are fierce too.
